Cheltenham Literary Festival

At long last Anthony Powell makes an appearance at Cheltenham Literary Festival.

The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival
4–13 October 2013

This year’s festival is focusing on ‘literary giants’, some of literature’s more substantial books, and will be exploring what gives these works their power and mythical status. This includes events on Moby Dick, Middlemarch, War and Peace, The Lord of the Rings as well as A Dance to the Music of Time.

A Dance to the Music of Time
Friday 11 October, 1400-1500 hrs
Cheltenham Town Hall, Main Hall

Anthony Powell’s brilliant twelve-novel sequence chronicles the lives of 300 characters, and is a unique evocation of life in 20th Century England. Its unrivalled for its scope and humour. Powell’s chosen biographer and author of the official Handbook to 'Dance', Hilary Spurling is joined by a panel of Anthony Powell admirers including author and critic DJ Taylor and British historian Richard Davenport-Hines. The panel will be chaired by Anthony Powell Society Vice-President, Patric Dickinson.

Henley Literary Festival

Henley Literary Festival
Friday 4 October at 1630 hrs
Red Lion, Henley

As part of Book Club Friday, husband and wife DJ Taylor and Rachel Hore come to Henley with their latest novels, both released this month to acclaim. Rachel's spans over 60 years of London life and DJ's imagines what would have happened had Edward VIII never abdicated.

It would be unlike DJ Taylor not to work thoughts about Anthony Powell and Dance in somewhere.
